Dynamics CRM Online "oops unknown error"when accessing a CRM Online organization from a Windows Phone 8.1 system

 

When trying to access a CRM Online organization from a Windows phone device that runs on Windows 8.1, for environments that have implemented AD FS, the federated users will get the error message "oops Unknown Error".

This problem relates to the Windows Integrated Authentication services, which is by default enabled in Active Directory Federation Services in Windows Server 2012 R2.

Since Microsoft Dynamics CRM for phones app on Windows Phone 8.1 does not support WIA, a workaround was provided which implies running a PowerShell script on the AD FS server to fall back to forms-based authentication for this specific situation.
