Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 Feature Pack 2007 Second Community Tech Preview Released!

After the hard work of the team in the last 2 months or so, here we are excited to announce the second Community Tech Preview (CTP) is available for download! Yes, it’s right on time!

Up to date, we have around 1500 downloads of the first CTP and 60 bugs submitted by participants. Thank you!

In this new CTP download, you’ll find these improvements (not an exhaustive list):

General:
- Improved overall test coverage and quality of the feature pack while incorporating bug fixes and enhancements based on feedback from the first CTP participants. Your feedback at work :-).
- Added component help and other enhancements to the documentation accompanying this build. Note that the latest documentation needs to be downloaded separately from the build and accessed by opening the .chm files directly.

USB Boot:
- Improved formatufd.exe to support NTFS formatting and creation of partitions needed by EWF and renamed it to ufdprep.exe.
- A new, automatic way to include USB boot feature in the configuration eliminating the need for manual steps in the previous CTP.
- A version of ntdetect with debugging information called “usbntd.chk” available in the ValueAdd folder on the CD.

File Based Write Filter:
- New files can now be committed to disk without committing the whole overlay.
- Support for NTFS compression has been added.

Components:
- Included a number of component enhancements that provide better configuration, reduced footprint or better visibility.
- Added a new macro component for Virtual PC that enables you to build an image easily for running in the Virtual PC environment.
- Have a new component for configuring MessageBox pop-ups, which can be used to turn off pop-ups on headless devices.
- Factored SNMP out of the IIS Webserver component which results in reduced footprint for devices that don’t use SNMP.

Hi Alan, can you file a bug at the connect site please so this gets onto the Dev's radar? What is the path to the Images folder right now? (c:program files...?). Please also check out this InstallShield help page on that error: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108470 Let us know if this helps or not. Andy

Thanks for the reply.  The InstallShield page gives two possible problems, one being a special character in my profile name.  The other possibility is that my CD-ROM drive is using a real mode driver. Using their suggestions, I've ruled out the CD-ROM route.  My profile is stored under "c:documents and settingsalan.lanteigne" so it's possible the "." is throwing something. What do you mean "Images" folder right now?  I'm not sure what that is, but XPe is currently installed to the folder: "C:Program FilesWindows Embedded" Is that what you're looking for? Thanks, Alan

Hmm. I don't seem to have those two folders.  My DB & repository are on a server running MS SQL.  Could this be the cause?

Try to identify the folder path and see if there is anything associated with it that is relevant to the Installshield help article. If in doubt, please file a bug at the msconnect site that you downloaded the FP, the dev team will investigate. Thank you

Sorry for the delay, we just moved to a new building here.  Here's my value for HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows EmbeddedBuildRoot: E:Windows Embedded Images E: is the drive assignment for my DVD reader.  I will update this value to D:, my data partition and see what happens...
