New Community Tech Preview Coming Soon…

If you have participated in past Windows XP Embedded Community Technology Previews (like Feature Pack 2007 and Image Difference Engine) then you should have received an email announcing that in a few weeks we will be launching a new CTP for Windows XP Embedded SP2 “Feature Preview 2008”. If you haven’t participated previously, you can follow the steps below to sign up now on our Connect site and then you will be notified when the CTP is available for download.

The goal of this program is to provide our partners with an opportunity to evaluate and test the upcoming version before it is released to market. "Feature Preview 2008" will provide an opportunity for you to evaluate the following Vista functionality & components for Windows XP Embedded: Windows Media® Player 11, Windows® Internet Explorer® 7, Microsoft .NET 3.0 Framework, Remote Desktop Protocol 6.0, and User-Mode Driver Framework (UMDF). You can read more details about each one of these features on our Connect website by following the directions below to sign up.

We have a fairly short window of time for folks to give us feedback on this release, so we’d like to ask that you please allocate time in your schedule to download, try out, and give us your feedback on "Feature Preview 2008" as soon as it is available. Please have all feedback submitted through the Connect site before March 23rd, 2007 to allow us enough time to review and possibly incorporate into the final product.

Here are the steps to follow if you have not previously signed up for one of our CTP programs:

1.       Use an Internet browser to visit the Microsoft Connect web site.

2.       Sign in using a valid Windows Live ID.

3.       Click on “Available Connections” in the left menu.

4.       Scroll down the page until you see “Windows XP Embedded” and click Apply.

5.       To report a problem about registration or to ask a question, visit the Contact Us page.

We will send a mail to everyone that is registered on the Connect site as soon as the build is available, and we will of course put another announcement on the blog J. We will also be hosting a live MSDN chat with experts from our Windows XP Embedded product team in late February or early March to discuss this CTP and help answer any questions you may have.

Please stay tuned for more information! In the meantime, if you have any questions about this CTP please send mail to viewcust@microsoft.com.
