MOM's the word

It seems like a lot of teams are eager to finish out the year with a flurry of releases. Well, the MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) team also had an early Christmas present for the XP Embedded community in September- they released support for MOM 2005 SP1 Agent on XP Embedded systems.

The team did not componentize their whole MOM Agent, but instead released a macro component that brings into a runtime all the components required for supporting an install of the MOM agent on the system after the runtime has been deployed (provided you purchased the appropriate license to use MOM). In other words:

  • Download and install the MOM pre-requisite macro component in your XP Embedded database
  • Add the "Microsoft Operations Manager Agent" component to your configuration, check dependencies, build and deploy as normal.
  • Install the MOM 2005 SP1 Agent on your runtime as you would on an XP Pro machine

You can download the MOM macro component from here. Installing the MOM 2005 SP1 Agent allows you to monitor the health of your Windows XP Embedded systems in the same way as you monitor the health of other Microsoft operating systems.

MOM 2005 is an event and performance management tool for Windows Server System. MOM 2005 improves the manageability of your infrastructure by providing:

• Comprehensive event management.

• Proactive monitoring and alerting.

• Reporting and trend analysis.

• System and application-specific knowledge from the experts
