Happy Ending of MEDC China 2007
When I entered the speakers party this evening (well, Seattle's this morning), I was congratulated by Qi the local Content Owner that I won the 1st place among lab speakers according to participants survey. WOW, that was really surprising and exciting for me! I know I did my home work preparing the labs, walked through the labs with the students and provided background info of the labs while we waiting for a step to finish. But I didn't expect I would beat other speakers coz it was my first time as a lab instructor in MEDC. I did work as a Teaching Assistant back in Graduate School though :). Derek won the 1st place among breakout session speakers. No brainer, Derek is a fantastic speaker.
Later all the top speakers from both WinHEC and MEDC went up to the stage and received the prize from Jawad Khaki, VP of Windows Networking and Device Division who did the keynote speech for WinHEC yesterday. The prize for me is a PA500 Enterprise PDA from UniTech. You know I've been looking to upgrade my phone to a smart phone or something that I can be on emails 24 hours like Andy does :). Looks like that PDA may work well for me, though bulkier than I wanted. Anyway, I have started charging the batteries right after I got back from the party and look forward to using it.
Quite a few people I met in the lab are working on industry automation. Some expressed interest to look into adopting XPe in the near future. I was told that in terms of OS adoption, industry automation segment in China is usually one step behind other segments due to the requirements on high reliability and stability. In another word, they'll stay on the current platform for some time. It aligns with our team's goal to "Continue to increase the value of Windows XP Embedded Product"
MEDC China now is over. Derek and other folks from Redmond are packing tonight to catch an early flight tomorrow to Berlin for MEDC Europe, the last stop of MEDC this year. Tomorrow is my shopping day (finally I'll have some time). I'll be on my flight Sunday.
Surely, meeting many different Chinese customers and local MS colleagues, knowing their needs and issues, helping the attendees in the 6 lab sessions and then winning the best speaker award really made a happy ending of my MEDC China 2007 journey!
BTW, check out a photo of the XPe intro session:
