ESC West 06
The last time I found myself in San Jose the PowerPC was announced. This year, Apple announces that their users will be able to run XP on their Intel-based computers. Wow, I think I’ll go back again next year ;-)
Seriously, I had a great time at the ESC representing Microsoft. I truly enjoyed talking to and hearing from our customers and potential customers. Since the two most common questions I had to answer were “What’s the difference between CE and XPe?” and “What’s XPe?”, there’s obviously a good bit of marketing headway to make with the Embedded Heads. But, with the compelling story that XPe is XP Pro and having some great XPe products in the booth, it was easy to provide a clear explanation.
And, speaking of great products, if you didn’t get a chance to stop by the booth and play with all the really cool products, you missed, IMHO, the highlight of the show. The graphics on the slot machine were just incredible; and the juke box library was huge. No, I’m not the only one who was selecting 40+ year old songs.
But the, potential, product that got me the most excited were the bolt-down PC’s for automobiles. Having two teenage sons, I know how much these 16 to 25 year olds enjoy having their PC with them. “Building” their own computer provides major league bragging rights. I can see drive-up LAN parties from coast-to-coast...
Excuse me, I think I’ll go check to see what my sons are up to.
