Mac meets PC: Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

Microsoft launches Office 2011 for Mac today, bringing Mac users the latest versions of the company’s productivity software. Per Press pass, two editions will be available: Customers can choose between Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011.

Word and PowerPoint give you the ability to create rich documents by layering text, shapes, pictures, SmartArt, animations, and charts. With Office for Mac 2011 you can now easily reorder all these elements using a simple visual interface.

The release is the latest effort from the Office for Mac team, which has been delivering Microsoft software to the Mac for 13 years. Many of us doesn’t aware that Microsoft has made Mac-compatible versions of Word and Excel for 26 years, ever since there was a Mac?

Edit images from within Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Recolor photos and images, apply filters and corrections, and even remove extraneous background imagery directly from the application itself.

The new release for Mac is focused on delivering anywhere access, better collaboration, and professional design tools to make it more attractive than previous versions. First and foremost, Outlook is now included in Office 2011 for Mac.

Easily access thousands of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 2011 themes and templates, and use them to create professional-looking documents. The gallery also helps you quickly find recent documents, and customize and preview any theme or template before selecting it.

The new Outlook was built from the ground up and works with both on-premises Exchange and the just-announced Office 365, the new cloud service from Office.

Whether you’re in the office, at home, or on the road, Microsoft Office Web Apps provide an easy way to access, view and edit documents directly from the Web browser.

Office 2011 has new built-in integration with Windows Live SkyDrive as well as connections to SharePoint so users can manage files and work from any location.

Inline calendaring now happens right in your inbox so you don’t have to switch back and forth from your calendar to e-mail. When you get a meeting invitation you can instantly see if you have a conflict. You can also see custom calendar views based on categories.

With Office Web Apps, Mac consumers can edit Office documents straight from their browser.

The release’s new co-authoring tools let users edit the same Word document or PowerPoint presentation simultaneously with other people in different locations who are using Office 2011 for Mac or Office 2010 for Windows.

In Excel 2011, Sparklines help you easily create charts and graphs that quickly summarize your data. With Sparklines, also available in Windows-based Office 2010, you can show the story your data is telling, in a compact space.

They can also quickly share presentations with anyone who has browser access through PowerPoint broadcasting.
