Q: What can cause SyncWithAD_Lookup to fail when creating a new team project?

A: A user object in Active Directory can be referenced using a number of possible names, such as the user principal name (UPN) or user logon name. For this release, the pre-Windows 2000 user logon name (also known as the security account manager name or sAMAccountName) must be the same as the mailNickName.

Suppose the logon name portion of a user logon name is "someone", the current domain is “microsoft” and the root domain is “com”. The UPN for this user is someone@microsoft.com. If the pre-Windows 2000 user logon name for this user is not “someone” (as in “DOMAIN\someone”), team project creation will fail.

Applicability: Visual Studio 2005 Team System December CTP; Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Refresh with Visual Studio 2005 Team System
