This is .NET related, remember ??

To all fellow posters:

A little bit of noise is always inevitable when surfing the web, but I would like to remind you that we are posting to a site named "DOT NET WEB LOGS". There are enough other sites dealing with cellphones, PDAs, movies, action-figures,etc, but high-quality .NET communities are in short supply. Don't dilute this site with stuff that we can find elsewhere. Next time you feel the urge to post about the cool new <whatever>, try Fark or Slashdot.

Just a friendly reminder from your friendly neighborhood nanny :)

If you refer to Scott email, I also received it. I like gizmos, and I'll be happy that Scott put a filter on the dotnetweblogs homepage.

I don't feel necessary to make Scott email public.

heh :) but that is C# related, somehow :D.

I don't mind reading offtopic blogs from time to time. I find it more distracting that some people do not know every blog is also listed on the frontpage and in the main rss feed. This means that if blogger XYZ farts a blog, it is listed on the main page, and if it is even slightely interesting, some other blogger embraces and extends it with just reminder-talk ;).

http://www.geekswithblogs.com is on the way with my Rss Engine and no guidelines. It will be soon that people will have as many blogs as they do email addresses. :)

    A couple of points,

    1. Thanks Addy. I agree. Things are really starting to veer off course. I have no problems with the community policing itself, but please contact each other directly and not via your blog. An off topic post about an off topic post...just leads to off topic comments. :)

    2. Pascal. No this is not in relation to an email. I only emailed you today because you had made about 15 posts in a row that had nothing to do with .NET

    3. Yes, you can post off topic stuff. But it should not be the basis of your blog. A post here and there about other forums of technology, development platforms, or your life is not a bad thing. However, if you do not have anything to say about .NET that is helpful...don't blog. ...or at least don't blog here. Its not that difficult. I am by no means saying you can not speak your mind. However, I would say that for some people here, there are better formats and places to do so.

Regardless of your opinions or interpretations, .NETWeblogs is here to help the .NET community. It is not about the latest tech toys...it is about .NET. That's it. If we can learn a little about the life and people who use it, who have created it...great. But .NET should be our number one focus. This isn't that hard. Anything and everything that relates to .NET (and .NET developers in a constructive way) is good (code, tools, conferences, jobs, people, books, our lives, etc). Other items in moderation are OK as well. But if you have been around here for a couple of months with nothing viable to say about .NET, you should consider blogging else where.

Hmmm, something I have noticed. The people making some of the "off-topic" posts you are complaining about are the people that contribute LOTS of interesting .NET discussion to this site.

Looking at your front page, you have a few mindless link propagations, a matrix photo, a Terry Pratchett book cover and a complaint that you are too busy to blog. Only ONE post that contains any .NET code and a few others that discuss vaguely related issues..

    Glass houses maybe ?
