Discontinuing the Microsoft Infrastructure and Solutions Architect Certification

Executive summary:

· The Infrastructure and Solutions architect certifications offering are discontinued

· For the individuals that have earned the certification, we have created special offerings

· Microsoft continues to offer the technology-based Architect certifications

More information:

Back in 2004, Microsoft launched two Architect certifications, Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) Infrastructure and MCA Solutions.  These two credentials, which are technology agnostic, were launched when the IT Architect profession lacked taxonomy, career development, and thought leadership.

Microsoft launched these two credentials to help fill the gap in thought leadership and develop the Architect Profession.  Since the launch of the Microsoft Infrastructure and Solutions Architect certifications, the IT Architect industry has evolved to the point where two IT Architect associations have built fully developed architect certification and programs.

As a result of these changes in the Architect industry, we have decided to discontinue offering the Infrastructure and Solutions architect certifications.  For the individuals that have earned the certification, we have created special offerings that allow them to continue developing their careers in collaboration with those two IT Architect associations.  Please contact me for details on the special offers. Discontinuing offering the Microsoft Infrastructure and Solutions Architect Certification is effective as of today.

If you hold either certification, we are still committed to your career and professional development as an architect and are offering to fund one of two options:

  • A Certified IT Architect–Professional (CITA-P) certification from the International Association of Software Architects (IASA) and a one-year membership to IASA

    or

  • A three-year membership in the Open Group’s Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects (AOGEA) program

Microsoft continues to offer the technology-based Architect certifications.  It is entirely appropriate that we continue to offer these advanced certifications especially since Microsoft is a technology based product company.  In addition, the technology based certifications offer a more direct career path for MCP’s who have completed their professional level certifications.  Please see the diagram below that illustrates which Advanced Microsoft Certifications will continue to be offered and which will be discontinued:
