Performance monitoring

Use the performance monitoring tools supplied with the Windows Server 2003 family operating systems to monitor system performance and the effects of configuration changes on system throughput. Some of the most important measurements for performance monitoring include:

  • Processor utilization

  • Hard-disk I/O rates

  • Memory utilization

  • Pagefile activity

A good way to estimate how many users a server can support is to measure system performance with two to five users on the system, and then scale the results.

Terminal Services adds the Terminal Services User and Terminal Services Session objects and their counters to the set of objects you can observe using System Monitor.
