Baseline Configurations

A baseline configuration is a reduced-footprint configuration that you can deploy. The disk space that is required by your run-time image depends on the components you select and their dependencies. For Windows XP Embedded, the bootable run-time image footprints range from less than 5 MB to over 300 MB.

A baseline configuration contains only the minimum amount of components required to run your device. Even if your goal is to build a more advanced configuration based on Minlogon or Winlogon, you should begin by building and booting a kernel configuration. This is used to verify that you can boot Windows XP Embedded on your device. Because of the small number of components involved in a kernel configuration, it takes less time for you to design, test, and build a run-time image.
