Pie Chart Type (Visual Studio Report Designer)

A pie chart displays value data as percentages of the whole. Categories are represented by individual slices. The size of the slice is determined by the value. Pie charts are typically used to show percentages.

There are two types of pie charts: pie and exploded pie.

Pie

A pie chart displays category groups, series groups, and values series as pie slices. The size of the slice is determined by the series value as a percentage of the total of all values.

Chart area Description

Values

Required. The values in a value series determine the size of the slice in the pie. Multiple value series appear as separate slices.

Category groups

Optional. Categories are displayed as individual slices in the pie. Each category is displayed in the chart legend.

Series groups

Optional. Series are displayed as individual slices in the pie. Each series is also displayed in the chart legend.

Settings for the x- and y-axis are ignored for pie charts. If you have multiple category or series groups, the group labels are displayed in the chart legend.

Exploded Pie

An exploded pie chart is identical to a pie chart except that the slices are moved away from the center of the pie. This results in space between the pie slices.
