How to: Configure Version Control User Tools

Use the Configure User Tools dialog box to specify the user tools that you want to use to perform operations on different kinds of files.

Required Permissions

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators or Users security group on the computer where Visual Studio is installed. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To configure source control user tools

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. In the Options dialog box, locate Source Control, expand it, and then click Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

    Note

    If the Source Control node does not appear, click Show all settings.

  3. Click Configure User Tools.

  4. Click Add.

  5. In the Extension box, specify the kind of file for which you are making this setting.

  6. From the Operation drop-down list, click Compare or Merge.

  7. In the Command box, type the fully qualified path for the command that you want to use to perform the operation, or click the ellipsis button and browse to the location.

  8. Click the arrow next to the Arguments box to select options, or type your own arguments.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Repeat steps three (3) through eight (8) to configure additional tools.

  11. In the Configure User Tools dialog box, click OK.

  12. In the Options dialog box, click OK.

  13. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
