How to: View Settings and Constraints from System Diagrams

In System Designer, you can view the settings and constraints on the members of a system and their endpoints. You can also modify settings on member applications and their endpoints that are designated as overridable on their underlying definitions. Constraints cannot be overridden because they are intrinsic to an application definition and apply to all uses of that definition in a system.

Note

Settings and constraints are specified on the underlying definitions of system members. Settings configure aspects of application or run-time environment behavior. On applications, constraints are called logical server constraints and constrain aspects of the logical server types that can host the application. On endpoints, constraints are called endpoint hosting constraints and constrain the types of logical server endpoints to which an application endpoint can be bound. For more information, see Applying Settings and Constraining Application and Application Hosting Relationships.

When you view settings and constraints on a system member, all the settings and constraints applicable to its underlying definition are available for review. For example, systems support only custom settings; therefore, they are the only available settings for you to view on a system that is a member. Modifying the settings on a system member affects only that member and not any other uses of the underlying definition in other systems.

For more information, see the following topics:

To view settings and constraints on members of a system definition

  1. On the system diagram, select an application, endpoint, or system.

  2. On the Diagram menu, choose Settings and Constraints.

  3. In the Settings and Constraints Editor, expand the appropriate constraints or settings node.

The Settings and Constraints Editor displays the appropriate constraints or settings. Enabled constraints appear as selected.

You can also search for the constraint or setting you want to view. For more information, see How to: Search for Settings.

Tip

You can also open the Settings and Constraints Editor by right-clicking the application, endpoint, or system and choosing Settings and Constraints.
