How to: Associate Work Items with Changesets

During the check-in process, you can associate work items with changesets as demonstrated in the following procedure. For more information about work items, see Team Foundation Work Items.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must have the Check in or the Check out permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To associate work items with a changeset

  1. In either the Pending Changes window or Check In dialog box, click the Work Items channel. For more information about checking in pending changes, see How to: Check In Pending Changes.

  2. In the Work Item list, scroll to locate the work items to be associated with the check-in, and select the corresponding options.

    Note

Before the list of work items are presented, you must select a query in the Query list. The first time the channel is used, the default query that runs is My Work Items. You can select a different query as needed.

  3. Under the Check-in Action column, from the drop-down list, indicate the action you want to perform against the work item. Click either Associate to associate the work item with the check-in, or Resolve to associate and resolve the work item.

    Note

Depending on the state of the work item, the resolve option may not be available. For example, if a query displays closed bugs, you would associate the work item but not resolve it.
