Delete Items

Use this page to delete items from the report server database. Before you delete an item, be sure that it is not used by another item that you intend to keep. For example, if you delete a shared data source that is used by a report model, the report model will no longer have access to the external data source that contains the data it uses. If you delete a report, you automatically delete all report history, report-specific subscriptions, and report-specific schedules for that report.

Reporting Services does not prevent delete operations for items that are actively used. However, you can find out whether an item is used by reviewing the following information:

  • Before deleting a report, use the Report Properties (Linked Reports Page) to determine whether the report you are about to delete shares its report definition with other reports.
  • Before deleting a shared data source, use the Data Source Properties (Dependent Items Page) to determine which reports and report models are currently using the shared data source. Models and reports are listed together on the Data Source Properties (Dependent Items Page). Data-driven subscriptions that might be using the shared data source are not listed as a dependent item. You must inspect each data-driven subscription to see if it uses a shared data source that you want to delete.
  • Before deleting a shared schedule, use the Schedule Properties (Reports Page) to determine which reports are currently using the shared schedule.

You cannot undo a delete operation. If you want to recover an item that you deleted, you must either recreate it or restore a backup copy of the report server database.
