Specify Storage and Caching Options (Usage-Based Optimization Wizard)

Use the SpecifyStorage and Caching Options page of the Usage-Based Optimization Wizard to set the proactive caching, storage, and notification settings for the selected partitions.

Options

  • Standard setting
    Use predefined settings for storage mode and proactive caching features.

    Selecting this option makes the standard setting slider available. Use the slider to set the storage mode and proactive caching features to one of the predefined settings listed in the following table.

    Predefined Setting Description

    Real-time ROLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to Relational OLAP (ROLAP).
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Drops outdated cache, with a latency period of zero (0) seconds.
    • Brings object online immediately.

    Real-time HOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to Hybrid OLAP (HOLAP).
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Drops outdated cache, with a latency period of zero (0) seconds.
    • Updates cache when data changes, with a silence interval of zero (0) seconds and no silence override interval.
    • Brings object online immediately.

    Low-latency MOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Set the storage mode to Multidimensional OLAP (MOLAP).
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Drops outdated cache, with a latency period of 30 minutes.
    • Updates cache when data changes, with a silence interval of 10 seconds and a silence override interval of 10 minutes.
    • Brings object online immediately

    Medium-latency MOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to MOLAP.
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Drops outdated cache, with a latency period of 4 hours.
    • Updates cache when data changes, with a silence interval of 10 seconds and a silence override interval of 10 minutes.
    • Brings object online immediately.

    Automatic MOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to MOLAP.
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Updates cache when data changes, with a silence interval of zero (0) seconds and no silence override interval.

    Scheduled MOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to MOLAP.
    • Enables proactive caching.
    • Updates cache periodically, with a rebuild interval of 1 day.

    MOLAP

    Sets the following storage and proactive caching settings:

    • Sets the storage mode to MOLAP.
  • Custom setting
    Explicitly set storage mode, proactive caching, and notification options. To set these options, click Options.
  • Options
    Opens the Storage Options dialog box in which you can explicitly set storage mode, proactive caching, and notification options. For more information about the Storage Options dialog box, see Storage Options Dialog Box (SSAS).
