Associating Applications with an Instance
When you configure an instance of Notification Services, you specify which applications are hosted by the instance. All instances hosted by an instance share the same subscribers, protocols, and delivery channels, and can be administered together.
Applications
A Notification Services application has its own event schemas, subscription schemas, and notification schemas, as well as operational settings. However, you might want to share subscribers, delivery protocols, and delivery channels with other applications. You might also want to administer multiple applications together.
To allow applications to share subscribers, delivery mechanisms, and administration, Notification Services instances can host multiple applications. You provide the list of applications when you configure the instance of Notification Services.
Associating Applications with an Instance of Notification Services
When you configure an instance of Notification Services, you specify which applications are hosted by the instance.
- If you are configuring an instance of Notification Services through XML, specify the application properties in the instance configuration file (ICF). The ICF specification includes the application name, the application definition file (ADF) location, the base directory for the application, and any parameter values required by the application.
- If you are configuring an instance of Notification Services programmatically, use Notification Services Management Objects (NMO) to define an application object and associate the application object with an instance object.
