How to: Open a Report (Report Builder)

Previously saved Report Builder reports can be opened using the Getting Started pane or by selecting the Open option on the File menu. RDL files created using Report Designer cannot be opened in Report Builder.

Note

To access and store reports on a SharePoint site, your report server must be configured for SharePoint integrated mode. If you are unsure about your report server configuration, contact your database administrator.

To open a report on the report server

  1. In the Getting Started pane, click Open from a site or server.

    Alternatively, you can click Open on the File menu to display the Open dialog box. You can also click the Open button on the Standard toolbar.

  2. In the Look in drop down list, select the Recent Sites and Servers item that you want to access.

    When selected, the Recent Sites and Server option lists the last 10 report servers and SharePoint sites that you have accessed. If the site or server is not listed, you can type the full path to a site or server in the Name box and Report Builder will attempt to locate it for you.

  3. Navigate to the report.

    Alternatively, you can type the full path to a report in the Name box and Report Builder will attempt to locate it for you.

  4. Select the report and then click Open.

    The report appears in Report Builder design mode.

To open a report on the local computer

  1. In the Getting Started pane, click Open from File.

    Alternatively, you can click Open from File on the File menu to display the Open dialog box.

  2. In the Open dialog box, locate the report on the local computer that you want to open.

  3. Select the file, and then click Open.

The report appears in Report Builder design mode.
