Crawled properties reference (Search Server 2010)

Crawled properties are metadata (such as author, title, or subject) that are extracted from documents during crawls. Managed properties are metadata that can appear in refined searches. This refinement data can increase end-user search efficiency and precision. Refined searches can be performed only on managed properties, not crawled properties. To make a crawled property available for refined search queries, you must map the crawled property to a managed property. The process to map crawled properties to managed properties is described in detail in the following article: Manage metadata properties for search (Search Server 2010).
This article lists the crawled properties that are available by default in Microsoft Search Server 2010.These default crawled properties appear before the first crawl is performed. After a crawl is performed, the list of crawled properties changes to include properties gathered during the crawl.
To view crawled property categories
Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a member of the Farm Administrators group.
Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration.
On the Central Administration home page, click Manage service applications.
On the Service Applications page, click the Search service application that you want to view.
On the Search Administration page, on the Quick Launch, in the Queries and Results section, click Metadata Properties.
On the Metadata Property Mappings page, click Categories. The crawled property categories are displayed.
By default, or when you create a new Search service application, there are 10 crawled property categories available in a Search Server 2010 installation. The following table shows the categories, number of default properties for each category, and the category description.

Crawled properties available before the first crawl
The following tables list the default crawled properties available before you perform a first crawl. By default the list of properties for each category as well the number of categories will change after the first crawl to included additional crawled properties and categories found during that crawl. New categories will be listed as Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, etc. New properties and categories found in subsequent crawls are added as crawls are performed.
By default, the Internal, Tiff, and XML categories have no properties. Accordingly, no information is listed in the table for these categories.
Note
By default, some crawled properties are mapped to managed properties. This mapping appears in the Mapped To column in the table for each crawled property category. For crawled properties that are mapped to a managed property by default, you can edit the mapping. To do that, you click the displayed text in the Mapped To column for the crawled property, and then on Edit Managed Property - crawled property name page, you specify the mapping that you want.

Note
You can view all default crawled properties without category organization by selecting Crawled Properties on the Search Service Application: Categories page. There are 324 default crawled properties however, so using category organization will provide a faster viewing experience.
