Note

The information in this article applies to both Microsoft Search Server 2008 and Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express.

Search Server 2008 has several levels of search administration:

  • Server administrator

  • Farm administrator

  • SSP administrator

  • Site collection administrator

  • Site administrator

You can download a poster, Permissions for common administrative operations, which provides information about operations and permissions for each of these administrative levels. Note

This poster does not address site administrator permissions because operations at the site administrator level need not be performed by IT professionals. Such operations can be performed by information workers.
