Use the Remove-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to delete a mailbox database object.

Syntax

Remove-MailboxDatabase -Identity <DatabaseIdParameter> [-Confirm [<SwitchParameter>]] [-DomainController <Fqdn>] [-WhatIf [<SwitchParameter>]]

Detailed Description

To run the Remove-MailboxDatabase cmdlet, the account you use must be delegated the following:

  • Exchange Server Administrator role and local Administrators group for the target server

For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, see Permission Considerations.

If the mailbox database has a database copy, the Remove-MailboxDatabase cmdlet will also remove the copy.

The Remove-MailboxDatabase cmdlet removes only the database object from Active Directory. It does not remove the physical database files. You must remove the database files manually after you run the Remove-MailboxDatabase command.
