Testing the New Database

This topic describes how to determine the state of the customer’s current database and to correct any database errors that may exist after the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2.

Error checking has been enhanced for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2, so testing may discover errors that were present in your Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 database but were not discovered by testing the old database. For more information, see Testing the Old Database.

To test the database

  1. In the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment, open the database.

  2. On the File menu, choose Database, and then choose Test.

    Important

Before you run any test, configure the development environment to write test results to a file so that you will not have to acknowledge error messages for every error found. To do this, in the Test Database dialog box, open the Options tab, choose File, and then enter or browse to a path and file name.

  3. To test everything except field relationships between tables, in the Test Database dialog box, open the General tab, and then choose Normal.

If the test fails, follow the workflow for repairing damaged databases.

  4. To test field relationships between tables, choose Test field relationships between tables, and then choose Custom.

This lets you determine the extent of any data inconsistency that may exist in the database. If you receive an error message during the test, note the content and number.

  5. Verify that the customer’s license file includes all of the necessary permissions for the upgraded solution.

  6. Test the upgraded item ledger entry invoiced quantities to make sure that any date compressed item ledger entries have been upgraded correctly.
