W poniższym przykładzie pokazano, jak utworzyć i używać wystąpienia GridLengthConverter. W przykładzie zdefiniowano metodę niestandardową o nazwie changeCol, która przekazuje ListBoxItem do GridLengthConverter, konwertującego Content z ListBoxItem na wystąpienie GridLength. Przekonwertowana wartość jest następnie przekazywana z powrotem jako wartość właściwości Width elementu ColumnDefinition.

W przykładzie zdefiniowano również drugą metodę niestandardową o nazwie changeColVal. Ta metoda niestandardowa konwertuje Value z Slider na String, a następnie przekazuje tę wartość z powrotem do ColumnDefinition dla elementu jako Width.

Należy pamiętać, że oddzielny plik Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) definiuje zawartość ListBoxItem.
