some users are reporting the menu crashes with SP2 are related to FRAPS and do not happen without FRAPS.

Bit of a red herring I'm afraid. I'm not using Fraps but am still getting this freeze problem (and I dare say I'm not alone!). Something I noticed was that if I select a dialog from the FSX menu (eg Display Settings) the program appears to hang but the cursor appears to believe the form's being loaded. If I move the cursor around it changes state from default to hourglass depending on where it is - generally I get the hourglass inside the boundries of the familiar but invisible Display Settings form. Anyway, before the SP2/Acceleration upgrade our copies of FSX worked fine, after SP2/Acceleration they crash randomly when we use the menus. Indeed uninstalling SP2/Acceleration fixes the problem so it can't be a co-incidence. Can you tell us what's being done to investigate the problem, Phil? From what I see in the forums it's been dragging on for a couple of months and there's a large number of users who bought FSAcceleration and can't use it. (Some people are saying it's upsetting the nVidia drivers - are you talking with nVidia about it?) Many thanks for any help or info you can provide. Happy New Year! Ian
