The problem you have encountered has multiple causes (but is usually caused by Yahoo! Toolbar)

You’ve presumably reached this page after being told that the system isn’t sure exactly what caused your problem.  The short story is that the error reporting system isn’t perfect, and sometimes is unable to pinpoint a specific cause.  The long(er) story can be read about here.

In this particular case, the predominant reason that you’ll see this response is a problem with an older version of Yahoo! Toolbar, for which a newer version should address the failure.  You can always download the latest version of Yahoo! Toolbar here.

It’s also possible that you’ve gotten this response due to one or more other, unrelated issues.  If you’re not using Yahoo! Toolbar, but are using either the MSN Toolbar or Windows Live Toolbar, you could potentially encounter this problem as well.  You can get the latest version of MSN Toolbar here (note that the latest version requires Microsoft Silverlight to be installed as well).  You can get the latest version of Windows Live Toolbar here.

If you’re not sure which, if any, of these components you have installed, click on the Tools menu (it should be under the search box at the top right of your browser window), hover over “Manage Add-ons” and then click on “Enable or Disable Add-ons”.  This will show you a list of the currently loaded add-ons in IE, and you should be able to identify one of the toolbars or the Windows Live Favorites extension in this list.

If you have trouble locating any of the components that have been discussed, please feel free to respond to this post either via a comment or to me directly (mweber@microsoft.com) and I’ll do my best to help you sort this problem out.

I don´t have yahoo toolbar or msn toolbar and when i open a page 5 minutes later is closer by the computer why? [ This is probably due to an add-on.  You can try starting IE in no-addon mode (which can be found under All Programs, Accessories, System Tools), or you can disable individual add-ons to try to determine which is causing the problem.  You can read more about how to troubleshoot IE and IE add-ons here. -Matt ]

i only have google toolbar and IE7 some times stays on for some times but then always an error occurs and IE7 freeses. I try safary, SAME PROBLEM. [ If IE is hanging or freezing, that may be unrelated to the error that this post is in reference to.  However, if you're seeing an error report that is leading you here, it's possible that Google toolbar may be at fault for that specific error.  You can update to the latest version of Google toolbar here.  You canvisit this website for additional assistance with troubleshooting IE problems if updating Google toolbar does not correct the problem, or if there are other issues present that are unrelated to this one. -Matt ]

Can you please direct me as to how can I solve this problem I use MSN in my system but I use Google all the time. I look for the Yahoo tool bar it is installed in my computer I dont remember ever installing it? What I see happens is that somehow some websites required internet explorer then I see up on the top MSN-Explorer. [ PC manufacturers often preinstall software like toolbars.  That may be how you came to have Yahoo toolbar installed.  I suggest either uninstalling Yahoo toolbar if you don't use it orupgrading it to the latest version if you do.  If you have other toolbars installed, I recommend the same for them.  If you need any additional assistance, please feel free toemail me. -Matt ]
