Juilliard Student Creates The “Grantophone”, Then Plays The Imperial March On It

GrantophoneOn Friday December 9, 2011, Microsoft hosted an HTML5 Game Camp at Columbia University.  Folks came out to learn about HTML5 from my colleagues G Andrew Duthie and Lindsay Lindstrom.  Later in the day, the campers hacked away and built games that run in the browser.

I was there to listen in as an attendee and learn something new aside from all of the Windows Azure stuff I’ve been working on lately.  There were some fun HTML5 games developed, and then demoed at the end of the evening.  Cool as they were, that’s not the point of this post.

I was recently told about a cool app for Windows Phone called the Grantophone.  I’m not exactly sure how to describe it, but it’s some sort of musical instrument app.

The developer of this fun app is a student at Juilliard in NYC.  His name is Grant Kot.  Grant was at the game camp and I was lucky enough to get a chance to meet him.  He demoed his app by playing a rendition of The Imperial March theme song from Star Wars.  Check out this quick video of him playing that I shot with my own Windows Phone on YouTube:

If you’re looking for something fun to do on your Windows Phone, check out Grantophone in the Windows Phone marketplace. Grant has posted some of his own YouTube videos showing how the app works and some of the cool things you can do with it.  This is raw talent!

I’d like to extend a personal thanks to Grant for creating something so awesome that my kids played with it for hours!
