April 2011 Office Security Update Release
Update: We are aware some of you are experiencing issues with two of the updates, KB2509470 (Outlook), 2464588 (PowerPoint).
KB2464588 issues have been addressed with a new update: https://blogs.technet.com/b/office_sustained_engineering/archive/2011/04/23/issues-after-installing-powerpoint-2003-update-kb2464588.aspx
In both cases, we are working on publishing an update to resolve the issues caused by those releases. We expect to release these updates as a hotfix to resolve those issues. We expect to have a PowerPoint update available for manual download before Monday, April 25th. We expect to have an Outlook update posted no later by Friday, April 29th. We'll keep this blog post updated as we have more information to share.

How long will we have to wait for this update. Breaking the majority of PowerPoint files across our enterprise is unacceptable.Anonymous

Is anyone having a problem with Security Update for MS PPT 2002 KB2464617? I keep getting error messages and can't edit anything even if I do get the presentation to open. Everything freezes. Major disruption to our business!!Anonymous

Its simple: KB2464588 cannot be released into the Enterprise environment - companies are either having to block the update or roll it back. I hope you are also aware that KB2464588 is causing PowerPoint to lock up when exiting from editing embedded objects, e.e. MS Graph. Personally it shows once more the PowerPoint product team seems totally disconnected from their Enterprise users.Anonymous

My organisation seems to be experiencing issues with KB2464617 for PowerPoint 2002. PowerPoint keeps crashing and won't allow presentations to be edited, uninstalling the update resolves the issueAnonymous

For in Depth Detail and how to uninstall/Deinstall this Patch in Coporate/Enterprise Enviroment with a Batch with SMS/Enteo/Altiris or any other Deployment Product. Just deny the Patch in WSUS will not deinstall it. Please understand MS, they made a favor and released a fix to a 0day leak together with the regular Patch Windows day. Also i would like to mention that Windwos Update Server is a free product and if you have WSUS Test Groups based on Active Directory Groups you can safely skip such catastrophic failures in Enterprise. You may need some deep knowledge what those Patches do and for what they are but actualy that is what the company pays you for if you work in IT. There are also external companys who offer the Patching via WSUS for smaller small business. We have collected most of the Info and made a post which may be helpfull for most IT-Administrators. www.butsch.ch/.../KB-2464588-Office-2003-reports-corrupt-while-opening-newer-File-Version.aspxAnonymous

After a few days of testing, we have found that KB2464583 (Excel 2007) and KB2502786 (Excel 2003) are causing trouble with their respective versions of Excel. The main issue we've noticed is that Excel will shut down when multiple spread sheets (at least 2-3) are open. The time before the shutdown is random (from instant to as long as 40 seconds). We have fixed these issues by uninstalling those patches and blocking them on our WUS.Anonymous

Hello MS Office Team, thanks for hotfix for PowerPoint 2003. Jenny CHSS on 20 Apl, Michael D on 19 April and D21 on 26 April have asked you about an Hotfix for PowerPoint 2002 - no reaction from your side. Hotfix KB 2464588 is for PowerPoint 2003 and can not be installed on PowerPoint 2002. PowerPoint 2002 is still in the extended support for some month. DID YOU PLAN A HOTFIX FOR PowerPoint 2002 or should we uninstall KB2464617?Anonymous
