MSDN Magazine: Mid-month Web Preview
Around the 15th of each month, MSDN Magazine publishes to its Web site additional features and columns. This month will lead off with Peter Vogel’s latest Patterns in Practice column, where Vogel continues to explore the Roles pattern he first introduced in January. In this latest column, Vogel develops the object model design and, based on reader feedback, makes a significant change to the design.
On the feature side, Joel Fjorden is back with Part 2 of his guide for WPF and Silverlight Developers focused on Windows Store Apps. Part 1 last month explained some of the new features in Windows Runtime and the differences programmers will encounter when transitioning to Windows Store app development, from specific changes in XAML to general differences with the .NET Framework as a whole. With Part 2, Fjordén will show WPF/Silverlight developers how they can implement the MVVM pattern in Windows Store apps without compromising on architecture.
The ALM Rangers team has written several features in MSDN Magazine, including the January feature Version Control in the TFS Client Object Model. In the March Web update, team member Suliman Battat will offer up a look at how Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 can help teams plan, manage and track work. The article explores the new product backlog, sprint backlog and task boards, which can be used to track the flow of work during the course of an iteration.
Finally, Joe Leibowitz authors a feature that will look at how devs can use the PowerShell scripting language to automate tasks in Microsoft Outlook. He details a quick, automated way to assign values to messages so that a PowerShell script can be run to allocate them to multiple, specified folders.
