Microsoft Academic Summit in DC 4/19 and 4/20

Special Microsoft Academic Summit to be held at Microsoft Corporate offices on K Street in Washington, D.C. on April 19 and 20.   This summit is being offered, in conjunction with our partner, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), and is especially designed for Presidents, Provost, Deans, Chief Information Officers and senior faculty.  Please see below for information on how to register, deadline is March 30, 2012.

There are a number of benefits for this two-day program including: 
- Opportunity for deep insights on cutting-edge technology (and best practices) in education from worldwide experts including other universities
- Allows Chief Academic Officers and Chief Information Officers the opportunity to learn, plan and have robust conversations and receive feedback from colleagues at other institutions
- Opportunity to plan for the paradigm shifting application of technology in order to improve accessibility, accountability, and economic factors as well as improve learning outcomes

Over the past year we have seen a significant increase in the number of academics reaching out to Microsoft in an effort to better understand the broader implications of technology in education.  They want to go beyond simply supporting systems and instead insure the systemic integration of technology in teaching and
learning as well as research.  It has become clear that technology is a key component of university strategic plans but many feel they need more opportunities to understand, and become more involved in, technology decision making.

To meet this need, we have designed this Academic Summit.  The agenda will include presentations by universities as well as Microsoft and its partners. In a “think tank” atmosphere we will present the key issues facing education and how technology has been appropriately applied to solve these issues.  Further, there will be
ample opportunity for participants, in small groups, to discuss how they might apply the key learnings to their own campuses as well as network with colleagues in other institutions. 

A sample of the agenda, we will open with Dr. Neal King, President of the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology and Secretary General of the International Association of University Presidents.  Dr. King will speak on “What senior campus leaders need to think about technology: A President’s Perspective.” Dr. Gregory Hager, Professor, Computer Science, Johns Hopkins and Dr. Robin Angotti, Professor, University of Washington will discuss Natural User Interfaces, Gaming and Simulations in Education. Harold Javid, Director, in Microsoft Research will discuss “Leveraging technology for e-Research” and Dr, David Raney, CEO of Nuventive,will discuss “Institutional Effectiveness.”
