UPDATED and EXPLAINED : Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile Update and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
This Update is ONLY required should you use WM 6.0 or WM 6.1 and it ONLY supports Exchange e-mail accounts, accessed via ActiveSync.
I have been told that for POP3 or IMAP4 this doesn't and will never work.
This Update is meant to be used with Windows Mobile and Exchange Server 2010, which will allow you to have the full benefits of this integration.
Should you have any doubts or comments, do not hesitate.
Kind regards.

Original Post :
Now you can keep valuable information at hand with the new Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile Update and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
The Outlook Mobile Update is available for Windows Mobile 6.1 phones. When your phone is connected to Exchange Server 2010, you are automatically informed if there is an update. If you have a Windows phone running Windows Mobile 6.5, you do not need this update.
Top new features
- E-mails grouped by conversation: With your e-mails grouped by conversation, you can quickly see all responses and perform common e-mail actions that apply to the entire conversation, such as deleting, replying, flagging, and moving e-mails.
- Free/busy lookup: Getting in touch with people in your organization is now more effective with calendar availability. Have a quick question that needs to be answered? Quickly check a colleague's schedule to determine if a face-to-face visit in their office or a phone call is possible, or send them an e-mail if their schedule is booked.
- Sync SMS messages to Exchange: SMS messages now appear inside of Outlook or Outlook Web Access, so you don't need to pull your phone out of your pocket to read and respond when you're sitting at your PC. You can even get your SMS text messages if you forgot your phone at home right from within Outlook or Outlook Web Access.
- Enhanced voice mail: Exchange Server 2010 Unified Messaging provides voice mail preview, giving you a text version of your voice mail messages so you can read them without having to call and listen to each.

Hi Sunny, Sorry for the delay. The server IP can not be IP/microsoft-server-activesync since that is the internal reference that IIS will read to pass the information from the server to the device. The usual address for WM devices is EQUAL to the OWA access for your company. Try it out and let me know :) Kindest regards, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi Alto, Try to use one of the below solutions : A - Simply uncheck the Calendar, Contacts, Email, Tasks settings in the ActiveSync options and that will force the phone to delete all synched content. Then re-check all those boxes and fresh copies of all the data will be downloaded. There can be something corrupted on the Device side. B - Break the device partnership with Exchange or Desktop. Re-create the partnership and try again. Note : Please use the second option in case the first one fails. Let me know how it went. Kind regards, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi Sunny, It will depend if you have ISA or TMG in front of the Exchange Server. Ask your IT to validate the publishing rule. Cheers, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi Sunny, Does the checkbox that say "Use SSL " is enabled ? On the Server side, your IT dept. can check the http logs and perform a search for your username and see if it's getting denied. The denies usually take 503 in the text. Regards, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi Sunny, When you access to your webmail, what address do you use ? It must be something like http://mail.yourcompany.com so, for the mobile, I advise you to try the mail.yourcompany.com and see how it goes :) ( This should fix the issue ) If any error code is returned, just let me know which, and I will reply back, as soon as possible. Cheers, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi, I tried to install the update on my HTC Touch Pro (Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional) - but the update only seems to be available for Exchange users? I use Outlook Mobile to check POP3 accounts and synchronize it with Thunderbird using BirdieSync. Is it possible to get the new design, that looks very easy to use without a stylus, without having an Exchange Server? Hi Philipp, You are correct ! This update will only work IF you are synching against Exchange. Kind regards. Thank you, PhilippAnonymous

I had this working just great after we went to Ex2010, but now I re-imaged my phone with WM 6.5 (HTC Touch Pro 2) and the Outlook UI looks nothing like the above screenshots-- I thought this functionality was to be included in WM 6.5. It seems to have gone back to the "old" Outlook not-touch-friendly interface. Is there a way to check the Outlook Mobile version number? Hi, sorry for the delay. If you click the link above that takes you to the update, you should be able to install and revert the situation. Hope it helps. Have a nice weekend. João RibeiroAnonymous

Hi, On a relatively different but same WM 6.1 and excahnge server 2010 issue - I have HTC touch pro2 with WM 6.1 which was working great with exchange server 2003, but our office migrated to Exch Server 2010 and now the mails are not syncing! Our administrator told me the new settings for SERVER ADDRESS are: "IP address/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" but the moment i put this information and press next, the part after the IP disappears i.e. "/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync" is gone, so activesync doesn't work! Any idea how to fix this? Thanks, SunnyAnonymous

Hi Ribeiro, Thank you for your reply. I agree but ever since we upgraded to exchange 2010, the OWA has changed to IP/microsoft-server-activesync, and that's working for all android based phones and Iphones in our organization! So I can understand that this is the internal reference, but our network administrator is not sure what else needs to be done for making it work with WM phones. I have asked him to check if it is possible have some sort of alias for the whole IP/Microsoft- thing, but am not sure if it can be done, or if it is the right alternative. So that's why I need your help on how to make this work on my WM 6.1. I see people are using WM with exchange server 2010 so would appreciate greately if you can suggest something at my mobile end or at the server. Thanks and regards, SunnyAnonymous

Thanks for your prompt reply. What you are saying is right in principle, and have seen it work for another organization; but the only problem with this is that our webmail also has a "/" in it - mail.mycompany.com/owa :) So the moment I press next in the server configuration menu, / and whatever is after that disappears! So this / thing needs to go as far as i can tell! i have tried various options in place of / or even put that it quotes, single as well as double, but nothing works. Thanks, SunnyAnonymous

And the error code that i get on my mobile when i configure my server with just the ip-address is -0x85010004, which says that "my account in Microsoft Exahnge Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings". I checked with our network administrator and he said that there are no special permissions required for it to work, and since its working for others therefore it should have worked for you too with current permissions - I don't know how much of that is correct though. Your thoughts on any special settings at exchange server end? Cheers, SunnyAnonymous

Is this update even available any more. I just receive the email notification that an update was available (6/11/2012). However, the url go.microsoft.com/fwlink is no longer valid. Is there another repository I can get the cab from? Hello Robert, To the best of my knowledge the update has been removed. I will try to get more details or a new download link. Hello Joao, I've reset my phone and I need this update. Do you have any information about a new download-link? :-/// greetings from vienna... Hello Manuel, Thanks for your comment. Please find an alternate download link, Non-MS, at : http://file.jayceooi.com/2010/05/Microsoft-Office-Mobile-2010.zip I hope this helps. Kindest regards, João RibeiroAnonymous

Hello João, The link at: file.jayceooi.com/.../Microsoft-Office-Mobile-2010.zip redirects me to just the homepage: http://www.jayceooi.com/ with no donwload? Also, this install was usually origianlly a two stage process, you install the CAB, run the program and it wants to download files from somewhere else (defunt Windows Mobile app store? Our own Exchange 2010 server?) and fails at that step too for me. Is there a place to download the complete set of files to get this update sideloaded on to our Windows Mobile 6.1 devices? Thanks! Hello, Thanks for your post. I will need to check that and get back to you. Kindest regards, João RibeiroAnonymous

I found the original cabs for Outlook Mobile Update. The first stage starting with OutlookLiveSetup.cab can't be reactivated because the OTA-Server is down (due to the new structure and services of outlook.com). In the second stage, the OTA-server - originally - returns the download path of the cabs specialised for the smartphone (depending on the AKU-Update-state of the phone). And these are the ones i found. microlinc.homeip.net/index.php (page is in german, you find the links under download-section) regards, Thomas Windscheif Thank you Thomas !
