Team System to be used in XNA Xbox game development plaftform
From a Microsoft press release today, ActiveWin posted this news.
Today at the Game Developers Conference, Microsoft Corp. announced new XNA (TM) software that will enable enhanced collaboration between content creators, programmers, management and quality-assurance staff members to speed the game production process. Based on the Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005 Team System, the latest innovation of the company's flagship development platform, XNA Studio is an integrated, team-based development environment tailored for game production.
This is going to be a really exciting collaboration, although not without its challenges. Some of the storage requirements of typical components of game development are going to help us push our system beyond what we’re working with in our own dogfooding. File attachments for work items in game development can apparently approach the order of Gigabytes.
Update:
There is an interview with Chris Satchel on Gamasutra on XNA Studio which gives a more detailed description of what XNA Studio is promising, particularly in terms of collaboration between folks sometimes left outside of the development process (art, audio, game design etc.). This article is definitely worth a read.
Thanks to Keith Rowe for that one.
