PERL: Perl Reference Books

There is something about Perl for tinkering and “quick & dirty” work that other scripts just don’t seem to rise to. Since I pretty much focue on Security amd Interop these days I’m finding myself back in my Perl library. Here are some of the usefull books. (It’s not that O’Rielly is the only publisher of Perl books – they just seem to have the best.)

Learning Perl, Third Edition by Randal L. Schwartz, Tom Phoenix

Learning Perl on Win32 Systems by Randal L. Schwartz, et al

Perl Cookbook, Second Edition by Tom Christiansen, Nathan Torkington

Learning Perl Objects, References & Modules by Randal L. Schwartz, Tom Phoenix

Perl Pocket Reference, 4th Edition by Johan Vromans

Advanced Perl Programming by Sriram Srinivasan

Mastering Regular Expressions, Second Edition by Jeffrey E. F. Friedl

Programming Perl (3rd Edition) by Larry Wall, et al

Friedl's RegExp book is a terrific one even though it's not all about Perl..

Have you ever tried Alintex for writing scripts? It's like WSH but managed.

I've run into Randall Schwartz a few times in New Orleans at some WebBuilder conferences a number of years ago. (In fact, he has my picture on his website photo album in a couple of places. I dare you to try and find them. :)
    Great guy!

I had to learn Perl quickly for a new job. Sams Teach Yourself Perl in 21 Days - while it appears light (it's almost a dummy book) - not only got me up to speed quickly, but serves as a great reference. I've got 5 out of the 8 books mentioned on my shelf as well, but "Teach Yourself" gets pulled most often.

I'm happy to have been given the opportunity to contribute to some of the most influential books in the creation of the Internet backbone (bit hauling, web traffic, data wrangling, etc).
