Hammer Time

The apparent backlash (if you can call it that) against WS-BPEL 2.0 has begun.

I knew things were going to get interesting when I heard Dave Linthicum'sSOA Podcast mention BPEL getting "hammered" by both the press and the blogosphere. There are a variety of reasons for the "hammering", some justified, some not.

Stefan has posted a summary of the WS-BPEL 2.0 debate over on InfoQ

Instead of hammering on the spec why not submit some constructive feedback? You can submit your feedback on the spec until November 9th.  Issues identified during the Public Review process are updated on a weekly basis.

For anyone who has not yet read the WS-BPEL 2.0 spec it is available in PDF, DOC and XHTML formats.

PS: A presentation (PowerPoint format) summarizing the changes from BPEL4WS 1.1 to WS-BPEL 2.0 is available. Some of this information is also available in the TC wiki. This presentation is one of the resources developed to support the non-normative Primer for WS-BPEL 2.0.

PPS: David's podcast is very good, well worth subscribing.

I blogged this using Windows Live Writer. Its a nice little tool that supports offline blogging. There are some nice plug-ins for it (e.g. adding images from Flickr) but it apparently doesn't (yet?) support categorizing blog entries. It would also be nice if I could choose an alternate option for saving images (only FTP is available - a Flickr upload plug-in would have been useful here). I may have to go back to using my little InfoPath hack. :(
