There are several knowledge base articles that have been published that address various causes and resolutions for the "Cannot Synchronize Address Book" issue in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 including R2.
After trying those with no resolution another possible solution is to run the Office Communications Server administration command line tool to reset web components.

You should contact your company tenant adminstrator or if you are the administrator of record for your BPOS account then open a support incident in your BPOS tenant portal for assistance.Anonymous

Can you ask the BPOS team to do these fixes? Because I'm getting these problems with communicator against BPOS and there's nothing I can do on the server.
