Benefits of Plastics Summit Blog From the American Chemistry Council

A year-or-so ago I blogged about the (seemingly) lack of social networking going on in the chemical industry.  The comment was aimed towards industry rather than academia.

Yesterday, David Bradley from ScienceBase posted on Social Media for Scientists.  The post is excellent and highlights several social networking sites out their for the scientific community - though these sites appear to be aimed at academia rather than industry.

This week, the American Chemistry Council launched into social media with the creation of its Benefits of Plastics Summit blog.  This blog will exist over the next three weeks in order to drive discussion on the benefits of plastics and related topics such as energy efficiency, etc.

In a June 16th ChemWeek (subscription may be required) article, ACC Chairman Bob Wood hinted that something like this was coming.  He was quoted  about  improving communication using "21st century" tools such as blogs and other social media.

I plan to keep my eye on the blog to see how they approach each week and topic, and to see if people are starting to comment - which seems to be their ultimate goal from reading the About section.  It's a great step in improving communication and awareness.
