Error reading the password from the registry

Hi,

Today I was testing and adding in an application documentation the use of aspnet_setreg in order to encrypt data in the web.config. Although I followed every step in the KB (https://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q329290) I received everytime the error.

I was wondering which was the problem, so I started msnling ;) and found Bryan Likes post about his problem with dot use.

I used an underscore character so I tested other name, and voilá, it solved the problem.

So, What is the point? is there any info about valid characters?

Please comment on this, I will try to find it :)
