How to install Clustered SQL Server 2008 on Windows 2008 Cluster using Hyper-V (Guest Clustering) Part – 1

After hearing a lots of feedback on my previous blog post on SQL 2005 Cluster on Virtual Server, I decided to spend some time to write a blog to install SQL 2008 on Windows 2008 R2 Cluster in Virtual Environment using Hyper-V. New Series is posted here

https://blogs.msdn.com/sqlserverfaq/archive/2010/03/30/how-to-install-clustered-sql-server-2008-on-windows-2008-cluster-using-hyper-v-guest-clustering-part-1.aspx

Work is in progress for rest part of series.

Happy Virtual Clustering !!!

Hi, hope you have a few seconds to help me determine if what I seek to do is possible. If I install Hyper-V on a Windows 2008 R2 server then create 3 VM's, one for DC and 2 for server 1 and server 2, in order to learn how how to cluster SQL Server 2008 R2, can it be done so that it doesn't interfece with our servers? Let me explain. I don't want to deploy a DC in the VM world that would create conflicts or bring down our PDC. Our network manager said not to do it.Is there a way using Hyper-V that I can make those VM's only talk to themselves, specially for the setup and use of the cluster, but at the same time allow the VM's to use our network in order to download what I need from Microsoft for the setup and windows updates?ThanksDavid
