SoftGrid Management Console Intermittently Crashes With 0000C800 or 0000C81D Errors
We come across this issue every once in a while so I thought I'd send it out in the hopes that it might save you some pain and heartache if you run into it.
Symptoms: When opening or using the SoftGrid Server Management console you may experience the following issues:
1. The SoftGrid Management Console intermittently crashes after it is open for a minute or more.
2. The SoftGrid Management Console crashes with 0000C800 or 0000C81D error codes.
3. You see the following events in the event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 8/17/2007
Time: 10:21:26 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SG-Server
Description:
Faulting application mmc.exe, version 5.2.3790.2617, stamp 43c70d1c, faulting
module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, stamp 424377d2, debug? 0, fault address
0x0002fc3e.
Cause: This can be cause by the existence of asymmetric icons in the Content share.
Resolution: To resolve this issue, open up Internet Explorer on the server that hosts the SoftGrid Content share and drag each icon, one at a time, from each package in the content share to the IE open window. If the icon doesn't show up then the icon is asymmetric. To confirm, you can then right click on where the icon should be and select properties from the context menu. If the icon is symmetrical you will see Dimensions: 32 x 32 pixels or Dimensions: 16 x 16 pixels, an asymmetrical icon will have something like Dimensions: 32 x 42 pixels.
You can either replace the icon with a symmetrical one or edit the icon with an icon editing utility to make it symmetrical. There are many free utilities available on the Internet that will allow you to modify an icon.
Hope this helps!
