Using Exchange Online after using a local Exchange Server

If you decide to use Exchange Online, you are already using a local installation of Exchange Server, and you have existing e-mail that you want to migrate, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign up for an account on Microsoft Online Services

  2. Establish e-mail coexistence between your server and Microsoft Online Services

  3. Migrate existing mailboxes

  4. Delete the local Exchange Server mailboxes

  5. Remove the offline address book from the Public Folder Database

  6. Remove the Public Folder Databases

  7. Remove the Send connector

  8. Reroute incoming e-mail from your server to Exchange Online

  9. Uninstall Exchange Server

  10. Install and configure the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service

  11. Change the e-mail addresses for domain accounts and reports
