Configure a Troubleshooting URL

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2

When you configure a troubleshooting URL, the NAP notification on a noncompliant NAP client computer will include a More Information button that can be used to direct users to a Web page that contains instructions for remediating the computer. By customizing network policies to the exact type of noncompliance that is evaluated, you can provide a unique troubleshooting URL to users with instructions that are specific to their noncompliance issue. Note

The Web page that you configure in a troubleshooting URL must be accessible to noncompliant NAP client computers.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).

Configuring a troubleshooting URL

Use the following procedure to provide a troubleshooting URL in the notification sent to noncompliant NAP client computers.

To configure a troubleshooting URL

  1. On the NAP health policy server, click Start, click Run, type nps.msc, and then press ENTER.

  2. In the Network Policy Server console tree, open Polices\Network Policies.

  3. In the details pane, double-click the network policy for noncompliant computers that you want to edit.

  4. In the policy properties window, click the Settings tab, and then click NAP Enforcement.

  5. Under Remediation Server Group and Troubleshooting URL, click Configure.

  6. In the Remediation Servers and Troubleshooting URL dialog box, under Troubleshooting URL, type the URL of the Web page to use with this policy, and then click OK.

  7. Click OK again to close the policy properties window.
