  1. Open WINS.

  2. In the console tree, click Active Registrations.

    Where?

    • WINS/applicable WINS server/Active Registrations
  3. On the Action menu, click Display Records.

  4. Select the appropriate filters and type in search criteria, if necessary.

  5. Click Find Now.

Notes

  • To open WINS, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click WINS.

  • By default, in the Display Records dialog box, all NetBIOS name record owners are selected on the Record Owners tab, and all NetBIOS name suffix record types are selected on the Record Types tab. If you have a large network or a large number of WINS servers, running a query without refining these selections could cause degradation of network performance due to the large data load transfer.

  • You must select at least one record owner and at least one record type in order for any search operation to successfully return one or more name records.

  • If you select the Enable result caching check box, the search results will be downloaded from the WINS server and stored in local random access memory (RAM). Because search results are stored in RAM, subsequent record searches on this name pattern will be faster. If a large number of records are returned, however, caching of records might take a long time and could adversely affect overall network performance.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
