Administer a remote router

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To administer a remote router

  1. Open Routing and Remote Access.

  2. In the console tree, right-click Server Status, and then click Add Server.

  3. In the Add Server dialog box, do one of the following:

    • Click The following computer, and type the computer name or IP address of the server.

    • Click All routing and remote access servers in the domain, and then type the domain containing the server you want to administer. Click OK, and then select the server.

    • Click Browse Active Directory, click Next, and in the Find Routers or Remote Access Servers dialog box, select the check boxes next to the types of servers that you want to search for. Click OK, and then select the server.

  4. Once the remote server appears as an item in the console tree, you can administer it.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group. As a security best practice, consider using the Run As command rather than logging on with administrative credentials. If you have logged on with administrative credentials, you can also open Routing and Remote Access by clicking Start, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Routing and Remote Access.   • You can administer a server running Routing and Remote Access by using Terminal Services.
