Checklist: Preparation for installing a cluster

Important

  • If you are using a shared storage device, make sure that Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition, and the Cluster service are installed and running on one server before starting the operating system on another server in the cluster. If the operating system is started on multiple servers before the Cluster service is running on one server, the cluster storage could be corrupted. Once the first server is configured, the remaining servers may be installed simultaneously.
Step Reference

Check that your hardware, including your cluster storage hardware, is compatible with Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.

Hardware compatibility

Check with the manufacturer of your cluster storage hardware and be sure you have the drivers you need.

Mass storage drivers and the setup process

Plan basic network details for the cluster, including details about network adapters, IP addressing, and the name and account the cluster will use. Also, plan for the volume needed for cluster configuration data.

Planning and preparing for cluster installation

Review the checklist for installation of the operating system and make decisions about such items as whether to install additional components.

Checklist: Performing a new installation
