Testing Wireless Connectivity in an Open Wireless Network (Windows CE 5.0)
Connecting a wireless client device to an open wireless network requires no WEP-key, certificate, or other authentication method. Any device with a working wireless run-time image and a wireless adapter can connect to an open network.
To test wireless connectivity in an open wireless network
Remove the PCMCIA adapter from the PCMCIA slot on your CEPC.
To disable VMINI, perform the following steps:
- Choose Start, choose Settings, and then choose Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Right-click the VMINI1 icon, and then choose Disable. Do not disconnect your CEPC from PBHOST.
Insert a wireless LAN adapter into the PCMCIA slot on your CEPC.
A dialog box titled with the name of your wireless adapter appears.
From the list of available wireless networks and access points, choose OPEN, and then choose Connect.
The CEPC will try to connect to the access point. The dialog box that is titled with the name of your wireless adapter displays the following messages:
- Scanning
- Associating
- Associated with OPEN
- Connected
Once the connection has been established, the red mark on the network connection status icon in the taskbar disappears.
To verify that you have successfully connected to your network, launch the Web browser on your CEPC and type the IP address of the OPEN access point in the address bar. If you are connected to the network, the configuration page for OPEN appears.
