Installing Windows CE with Shared Source Code (Windows CE 5.0)

When you install Windows CE Shared Source, the Setup Wizard guides you through the process.

If there is a preexisting instance of Windows CE, you must remove it before installation.

You can modify the installation to add the Shared Source for Windows CE component.

To install Windows CE Shared Source

  1. Insert the Windows CE installation media into the appropriate drive of your development workstation.

    - or -

    Download and run setup for the Emulation Edition.

  2. In the Welcome to Microsoft Windows CE dialog box, choose Install and then choose Next.

  3. When the End User License Agreement appears, read the agreement, choose I accept the terms in the license agreement and then choose Next.

  4. In the Customer Information dialog box, enter information in the following fields:

    • Your name

    • The name of your organization or company

    • The product key, located on your Windows CE installation media sleeve

      **Note   **If you are installing the downloaded Emulation Edition, no product key is necessary.

  5. Install support for the IDE and for building run-time images by choosing Next and then in the Setup Type dialog box choose Custom (Tools and OS).

    The screen appears.

  6. (Optional) If you want to change the folder where Platform Builder or Windows CE is installed, choose Next and in the Destination Folders dialog box choose Change.

  7. Choose Next and in the Custom Setup dialog box select the microprocessors you want to support; then choose Shared Source for Windows CE.

    **Note   **If you are installing the downloaded Emulation Edition, no processors are listed.

  8. Choose This feature will be installed on the local hard drive and then choose Next.

  9. Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement and then choose Next.

  10. In the Ready to Install dialog box, choose Install to copy the Platform Builder and Windows CE files to your development workstation's hard drive.

  11. Exit the wizard after the installation is complete by choosing Finish.

You can now use Shared Source code in your OS design.
