Using the Notification Sample Application

Topic Last Modified: 2007-04-17

To use the Notification sample application, navigate to the \Samples\Notification\NotificationSample\bin\Release\ folder in the directory in which the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Software Development Kit (SDK) is installed, or the directory where the application was built, and double-click the NotificationSample.exe file icon. This application must be run on a computer on which the Microsoft .NET Framework is installed. Because the user's credentials are authenticated on the computer that is running Microsoft Exchange, the user must have access to resources on the Microsoft Exchange server to use the application.

The Notification sample Application is designed to handle only one subscription at a time. Before subscribing to a different resource, you must first remove the current subscription.

The following figure shows the Notification sample application.

To subscribe to a resource

  1. Enter the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) of the resource that you want to subscribe to in the URI text box.

  2. Enter the user name, password, and domain credentials of a user who has access to this URI in the User Name, Password, and Domain text boxes.

  3. Select the notification type from the Select notification type drop-down list. You can select the Delete, Update, and Update/Newmember notifications for a mail or public folder or a resource. The On new mail notification should be selected for a mailbox folder, although it can be selected for a public folder, as well.

    Note

If a message is deleted from an Inbox by using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Web Access, the Inbox will not raise a delete event, because Outlook actually moves messages from the Inbox to the Deleted Items folder. If a message is posted to a folder, a new mail event will not be raised.

  4. Click Subscribe to URI. This will create a subscription on the resource and the application will display a message when an event notification has been received.

To unsubscribe to a resource

  • Click Unsubscribe from URI.
