Building an Enterprise Deployment

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

This topic provides the sequence of tasks you perform to build an enterprise deployment. For an illustration of the IP network connectivity in an enterprise deployment, see Commerce Server Enterprise Deployment Network Connectivity Diagram.

Note

Before you start the enterprise deployment, make sure that you read the deployment requirements described in Deployment Requirements. Failing to follow the steps in this topic may cause an unknown and unsupported configuration of the deployment, such as the inability to connect to the server that is running SQL Server or to log on.

In an enterprise deployment, follow these steps:

  1. Gather your hardware and equipment, wire your network, install the Windows operating system on all servers, and define your network settings. For more information, see Configuring the Commerce Server Network.

  2. Set up the domain controllers for all tiers. An enterprise deployment consists of three domain controllers:

    • Production Web tier domain controller.

    • Data/staging tier domain controller.

    • Internal development/test/business tier domain controller.

For more information, see Configuring a Domain Controller.

  3. Configure your SQL Server database instances. An enterprise deployment consists of six database servers that you configure:

    • A clustered pair of production database servers in the data/staging tier.

    • BizTalk non-clustered database server in the data/staging tier (optional).

    • Staging non-clustered database server in the data/staging tier.

    • Data Warehouse and analysis non-clustered database server in the data/staging tier.

    • Internal/test non-clustered database server in the internal/test tier.

    • Test BizTalk non-clustered database server in the internal/test tier (optional).

For more information, see Configuring the Database Servers.

  4. Configure the business management server.

    1. Perform steps 1 through 6 in Configuring the Business Management Server.

    2. Grant Commerce Server service identities access to the databases. For more information, see Granting Access to the Commerce Server Databases.

    3. Perform the remaining steps in Configuring the Business Management Server.

  5. Configure the Web tier servers. For more information, see Configuring the Web Servers.

  6. Complete the build out of the data tier. For more information, see Building the Data Tier.

  7. Complete the build out of the staging tier. For more information, see Building the Staging Environment.

  8. Complete the build out of the Web tier. For more information, see Building the Web Tier.

  9. Complete the build out of the internal development/test/business tier. For more information, see Building the Internal Integration and Test Environment.
