FSI landing zone overview
The Financial Services Industry (FSI) landing zone is an Azure landing zone (ALZ) variant that provides opinionated infrastructure-as-code automation that creates an environment adhering to Microsoft’s best practices for complex and highly regulated workloads.
The FSI landing zone is built using Azure verified modules (AVMs). Furthermore, it is built on top of the baseline best practices of the ALZ, based on the best practices learned from complex implementations, and codified as a part of the cloud adoption framework and well-architected framework. These frameworks are critical to understand before making use of the more capabilities.
In addition to those ALZ best practices, highly regulated industries have strict and non-negotiable compliance requirements that they must meet beyond the ALZ baseline.
Such requirements include:
- Ensuring the residency and sovereignty of data such that customers maintain full control of their data and key ownership.
- Transparency in logging of cloud events from customer infrastructure in addition to visibility and control of Microsoft operations.
- Delivering a secure-by-default infrastructure that continuously meets the regulatory compliance requirements with evidence provided to regulators.
- A highly resilient foundation to ensure mission-critical applications, such as payment gateways, meet the required service level agreements (SLAs).
- Foundation that caters to generic and industry-specific workloads and scenarios, while balancing various degrees of security and compliance requirements.
The FSI landing zone provides extra prescriptive guidance and recommendations for the financial services industry on Microsoft Azure to meet these requirements, as learned through long-term engagements with our most complex customers.
Getting started
You can follow the instructions available alongside the ALZ accelerator. The accelerator supports both the Azure DevOps and GitHub version control system (VCS). Furthermore, it uses the ALZ PowerShell Module to gather the required parameters and apply a Terraform module to configure a bootstrap environment.
